ABBA fans have been sent into a frenzy following reports the Swedish supergroup is set to announce a new project.

Speculation began overnight that a huge announcement could be on the cards for the Swedish quartet after an image surfaced on Twitter of the setup for an ABBA press conference.

The photo was allegedly taken at a recording studio in Stockholm, with each seat featuring a bag emblazoned with the band's famous logo.

Alongside the picture, the photographer wrote: "ABBA press conference today? Seen at mono music through the window in Stockholm.

"Also apparently Frida has been seen in Stockholm (lives in Switzerland). Can't cope with the stress!"

Another added: "So, for anyone needing some good news in these particularly awful days, THERE IS AN ABBA PRESS CONFERENCE IN STOCKHOLM THIS AFTERNOON AND I AM STRUGGLING TO BREATHE."

"The fact that ABBA are holding a press conference today is making me possibly the most anxious and excited I will ever be in my entire life," a third said.

Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad originally announced in 2018 they were planning to record new tracks for the first time in over 35 years.

Thanks to the global pandemic, the song releases of 'I Still Have Faith In You' and 'Don’t Shut Me Down' had to be delayed, along with the planned ABBAtar hologram tour.

The group went their separate ways in 1982 at the height of their career.

They performed together for the first time in decades in 2016 at a private event, which marked the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between songwriters Björn and Benny.
