Adele is known for moving her fans to tears with her music, but little did they know she would also have them shedding tears when she called them to personally apologise for cancelling her Las Vegas show.

Taking to social media on Friday, the pop star tearfully announced she was having to postpone the start of her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace at the last minute because of Covid production issues.

In a video to her followers, she said: "I'm so sorry, but my show isn't ready ... We've been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and Covid. Half my crew … are down with Covid – they still are – and it’s been impossible to finish the show."

But as disappointed concert-goers - some of who had travelled in from around the world - had already arrived in Vegas for the highly anticipated shows, the 33-year-old took it upon herself to apologise to them personally via FaceTime.

Video calling her fans, the Grammy Award-winner could be seen waving to fans and wiping her eyes before saying: "I love you too, I'm so sorry and I can't wait to meet you, alright."

Ticket holders who had arrived at Caesars Palace were also given gift bags with a T-shirt, magnets representing her albums, a keychain and other goodies.

The fans said the experience changed what would have been the worst trip ever into "literally being like the coolest story ever."

"It just shows how you're supposed to treat your fans," fan James Mason Fox said following the call.

"There are so many artists who would not do what she's done."

The 'Hello' hitmaker later took to Twitter to say that she had the "best fans in the world" and thanked them for their "graciousness and love."

Adele's three-month Las Vegas residency, titled Weekends with Adele, was due to begin on Friday 21 January and was scheduled to run through Saturday 16 April.
