Britney Spears shares she has lost her 'miracle' baby

Just one month after announcing she was expecting her third child, Britney Spears has taken to social media to share the heartbreaking news that she and her fiancé Sam Asghari have lost their baby.

Posting to Instagram, the pop star shared the tragic news in a written statement.

The 40-year-old penned: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy.

"This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news.

"Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment," she concluded the post.

In the recent weeks since announcing her pregnancy, Spears had been active on social media posting notes on how she was feeling and how excited she was to know more about her baby.

The hitmaker shares two sons, 15-year-old Jayden James and 16-year-old Sean Preston, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Spears and Federline - who was once her backup dancer - tied the knot in September 2004 after a whirlwind six-month courtship. The pair divorced in 2007.

The couple share custody of the boys, with a 70-30 split in Federline's favour.
