New Zealand has another 62 new cases of COVID-19 in the community and one in managed isolation, says Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

That brings the total number of active cases in the community to 210.

Bloomfield said the majority of case links were from households and workplaces. Some were from locations of interest.

198 of the total cases are in Auckland, 12 are in Wellington.

There are 12 people in hospital, no patients are in intensive care.

On Monday Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that Auckland's lockdown would be extended for another week and will not be reviewed until Monday 30 August.

While the rest of New Zealand will remain at alert level 4 until 11.59pm on Friday 27 August.

The Government will be closely watching for any spread outside of Auckland ahead of its decision on Friday about whether to keep all of New Zealand at level 4.

There are currently more than 480 locations of interest, with the latest Auckland locations including supermarkets, takeaway outlets and schools.

The Government is still investigating how the original transmission occurred from the New South Wales returnee who was staying in MIQ at the Crowne Plaza.
