Coronavirus: New Zealand has nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19

Today New Zealand has five new confirmed cases of COVID in the community and four in managed isolation, says Deputy Director-General Robyn Shearer.

The community cases are all linked to the current South Auckland cluster.

There are 11 people in hospital, including two patients in intensive care.

That brings the total number of active cases to 131 in New Zealand, with 107 in the community.

The total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand since the pandemic began is 1,387.

After 18 days, Auckland moved into level 2 like the rest of the country at midnight last night, except with stricter rules on gatherings.

Gatherings for Aucklanders are restricted to 10 people at level 2, while a 50-person limit is in place for funerals and tangi.

These settings will be in place for a week and Cabinet will review them on Sunday 6 September.
