After five weeks at alert level 4, the Prime Minister has revealed Auckland will move to alert level 3 at 11.59pm tomorrow (Tuesday 21 September) for two weeks, with a review on Monday 4 October.

While the rest of New Zealand will remain at alert level 2.

But the level 2 rules would be changed to allow a maximum of 100 people to gather, including at hospitality venues.

Following three new cases reported overnight just south of the Auckland lockdown boundary in Whakatīwai, Dr Ashley Bloomfield has placed a section 70 notice for people around Mangatangi, effectively increasing the border around Auckland.

It would require those who had visited or lived there since September 8 to isolate and monitor symptoms. That included the school and a marae.

Ardern said it was a "bespoke" level 4 lockdown requirement around that area.

The section 70 notice will remain in place for five days.

The total number of cases in this community outbreak is 1,071.
