Over the past two weeks, the music world has been mourning the loss of Kenny Rogers.

To celebrate the life and music of the country legend, musicians and some of Kenny's good friends including Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Gavin DeGraw, Lady Antebellum and more will be making virtual performances as part of the CMT GIANTS Kenny Rogers: A Benefit for MusiCares.

The stars will not only perform Kenny's songs directly from their homes but they will also reflect on his impact on the music world.

Rare archival photos, interviews and performances by Rogers will also air.

"Kenny Rogers transcended genres and generations with his musical versatility, legendary collaborations and timeless appeal, and we're honoured to pay tribute to his legacy," CMT executive producer, Margaret Comeaux, said in a statement.

"Particularly in these turbulent times, we'll stop and take a moment to allow the memory of our dear friend Kenny to bring us together and inspire us to lend support to those in the music community who are most in need."

The special - which is being hosted by Tom Hanks' wife Rita Wilson - is set to air tomorrow, Thursday 9 April, on American TV channel CMT, at 3pm (NZST).

Throughout the airing, viewers can donate to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, which provides financial aid to those in the music industry who have suffered a loss of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rogers died on March 20 from natural causes. He was 81.

We're crossing our fingers New Zealanders will also be able to watch the tribute concert!
