Parents; if you're in need of some help entertaining your children during the coronavirus lockdown, country music superstar Dolly Parton is your lady.

The '9 To 5' hitmaker has announced she will be reading bedtime stories to children in a new 10-week virtual series called Goodnight with Dolly.

Each week, starting Thursday, Dolly will read a new book selected from the Imagination Library - her book gifting program which mails free books to children.

The country music queen hopes the bedtime stories will "comfort and reassure children" forced to stay in their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: "This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right.

"I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love. It is an honour for me to share the incredible talent of these authors and illustrators.

"They make us smile, they make us laugh and they make us think."
