Two of Britain's most famous faces have joined forces for a humorous new advert encouraging people to get a Covid-19 vaccine.

Starring in the UK's National Health Service (NHS) 90-second advert, Sir Elton John and Sir Michael Caine - who have both had the vaccine - can be seen auditioning for the role of reassuring the public that they are safe and effective.

During the audition, the 73-year-old singer receives criticism from the director for his acting skills and for being too "showbiz," before he delivers an impression of Caine.

After pretending to have a vaccine shot, he bursts into a rendition of 'I’m Still Standing,' whereupon the director quips: "Thanks Elton, we will let you know."

A disgruntled John replies: "At this short notice you won't find anyone bigger," before the commercial cuts to Caine delivering two of his signature lines, after having received the jab.

"Hello, my name is Michael Caine," the 87-year-old actor says. "I've just had a vaccine for COVID. It didn't hurt – not many people know that."

The advert ends with the director thanking Caine for the audition, before quipping: "Let the little fella [Sir Elton] know he didn't get the job."

Britain has currently delivered its first doses of vaccine to more than 12.6 million people and is on course to reach its target of reaching 15 million in the top four priority groups, including those aged over 70, by February 15.
