Sir Elton John and David Furnish's two sons have remained largely out of the spotlight, with the singer asking for fans to respect his private life.

But last week, the proud dad gave fans a rare glimpse of Zachary, 11, and Elijah, nine, as they hit the red carpet with Furnish and their godmother Lady Gaga while attending their dad's AIDS Foundation's 30th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party.

Photos from the event show the young boys wearing matching navy blue suits as they were all smiles for the camera.

"So excited to be at #EJAFOscars night with the boys, Gagamother, and all of our incredible friends!" Furnish wrote on Instagram.

John, who was missing from the event, also shared the snaps, writing: "So sad to be missing out on these family photos from #EJAFOscars tonight with @DavidFurnish, @LadyGaga and the boys but I'm sending my love to everyone for their support of @EJAF. It means the world to us!"

Back in 2013, the legendary musician revealed he chose Lady Gaga as godmother for his two sons because "she's a great role model."

"She's been a great godmother to Zachary. She came to bathe him in Las Vegas. She was already dressed to go to the show, and she was sitting there and she bathed him, and she was like dressed like Audrey Hepburn … and she fed him."

"We're all bonkers in this business, but we're human beings at the same time."

Elton and David, whom he legally married in 2014, have previously revealed that they would have loved another child but that the 'Rocketman' hitmaker thinks he's too old now.

Elton became a first-time dad at the age of 61 when Zachary was born via surrogate in December 2010.

Elijah was born to the same mother in January 2013.
