A cottage that starred as a holiday house in the Australian movie classic The Castle is being rented out on Airbnb for $181 a night.

You can take a look at the listing for yourself here.

The three-bedroom house at Bonnie Doon, north-east of Melbourne, is where battler Darryl Kerrigan took his wife and three of their children for some rest and relaxation when he wasn't fighting to keep the family home next to an airport.

In the popular 1997 film, Darryl, played by Michael Caton, took five years to build the holiday house on a bargain-priced 'block of land with a beautiful view' of the lake.

That very same house on Maintongoon Road is where Darryl famously said to his son Dale, played by Stephen Curry: 'How's the serenity?'.

The slice of Australian film history, in a place known as Bonnie Doon on screen and in real life, is being marketed on Airbnb as the 'Kerrigan's holiday house'.

'You're not dreaming. Share a slice of Australiana film history 'The Castle',' it said.

'It's a stay you'll be telling people about for weeks.'

The Airbnb hosts said the renovated house, being let out for $181 a night, would make the 'best gift for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or for any occasion'.

'Share it with friends or family, surprise them and get a buzz from their reaction when you tell them this is where they're spending a few nights,' the ad said.

'The house has been renovated to a modern retro feel.'

The house, a stone's throw away from Lake Eildon, sold for $375,000 in February 2015 as a two-bedroom home with one bathroom.

It has since been turned into a castle, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms that can sleep eight people.

The holiday house from The Castle is being let as the Kerrigan's other house at Strathmore, near Melbourne's Essendon Airport, is relocated to Corowa, on the northern side of the New South Wales-Victorian border, to make way for townhouses.
