Nearly 40 years after it was first released, Wham! has returned to number one in the UK with their iconic hit 'Last Christmas.'

Originally released in 1984, the song once held the record for the best-selling single never to reach number one in the UK, after being famously kept at number two by Band Aid’s 'Do They Know It’s Christmas?.'

Finally, on New Year’s Day in 2021 it hit the top.

And now the late great George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley are once again at the top of the Official Singles Chart, boasting 11.4 million streams in the UK this week.

With just four full days of tracking left until the Christmas number one is decided, Wham! could be about to receive their first-ever Christmas number one single.

Hot contenders for the spot are LadBaby's 'Food Aid,' the Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey with 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and 'Merry Christmas' by Ed Sheeran and Elton John.

Micheal died of a heart attack and liver complications at the age of 53 in 2016.
