Judge Judy is ending her show after 25 seasons to launch a new show

After 25 years, Judge Judy Sheindlin has announced that her show's upcoming season will be its last.

That's right.

Judge Judy - in which she has adjudicated real-life disputes in a mock courtroom set since the show began in 1996 - will finish after the 2020-2021 season airs because CBS wants to "optimally utilise" old episodes of the show by selling the rights to the repeats.

Speaking in an upcoming interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she said: "CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilise the repeats of my programme.

"Now they have 25 years of my reruns. What they decided to do is sell a couple of years' worth of reruns."

However, the 77-year-old judge isn't hanging up her robe just yet.

Judy — who is known for her no-nonsense attitude — will still be gracing our screens as she's got a new show in the works.

Speaking to Ellen, she added: "I'm not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later.

We don't have many details about Judy’s new show, including whether it will have the same format as Judge Judy or which network will broadcast her new programme.

She simply said: "I can't tell you yet."

The savvy former lawyer, who set the Guinness World Record in 2015 for longest career as a TV judge, was named by Forbes in 2018 to be the year's highest-paid TV host, bringing in a staggering $47 million a year.
