Following the success of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John's Rocketman, Michael Jackson is now getting his own biopic.

And now it has been revealed the late icon will be portrayed by his 26-year-old nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

Announcing the news on Instagram, the actor said he is "humbled and honoured" to have been chosen to portray his uncle - who died in 2009 from acute propofol intoxication aged 50 - in the film, which will be simply titled Michael.

Jaafar - who is the son of the 'Bad' hitmaker’s brother Jermaine, said: "I’m humbled and honoured to bring my Uncle Michael's story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon."

Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King has teamed up with Lionsgate for the project, which has also been given the blessing by Jackson's estate allowing them access to the King of Pop's music.

Michael promises an "in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop. It will bring to life Jackson's most iconic performances as it gives an informed insight into the entertainer's artistic process and personal life."

The film will cover Jackson's beginnings with The Jackson 5, his rise to pop superstardom and his legal struggles with both civil and criminal lawsuits stemming from allegations of child sex abuse.

The 'Billie Jean' hitmaker's mother Katherine Jackson said of the biopic: "Ever since Michael was little, as a member of the Jackson 5, he loved the magic of cinema. As a family, we are honoured to have our life story come alive on the big screen."

The film has reportedly been in the works since 2019 with John Logan, who wrote Gladiator and The Aviator, penning the script.

The co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate — John Branca and John McClain — will also produce.
