For the first time in three years, Sir Paul McCartney took to stage in Washington for the opening night of his Got Back US Tour over the weekend.

And a very special guest joined him for the show.

Reuniting virtually with his Beatles bandmate the late John Lennon for a duet, McCartney thrilled the crowd as he performed the band's classic song 'I've Got a Feeling' during the encore.

As the 79-year-old legend sang the song, footage from the unforgettable 1969 London rooftop performance was worked into the show.

Before the song concluded, McCartney turned around to face the screen and gestured a thank you wave toward Lennon as his image faded away.

"So, Peter Jackson, the director of the Get Back film, he texts me one day. And he says, 'We can extract John's voice. He can sing with you live,'" McCartney told the roaring crowd after the song finished.

Lennon was tragically shot dead in 1980, aged 40.
