Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce Archie and Lilibet will now use their royal titles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children are now using their official royal titles.

Following her christening on March 3, 2023, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor was using the title of a princess.

"I can confirm that Princess Lilibet was christened on Friday, March 3, by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev. John Taylor," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Under protocols established by King George V in 1917, the children and grandchildren of a sovereign have the automatic right to the title HRH and prince or princess.

This means that Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lili were entitled to use their royal titles since September when their grandfather, Charles, became king after Queen Elizabeth II's death.

Since Meghan and Harry stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, no one knew whether the couple would want to update the siblings' titles from Master Archie and Miss Lilibet.

Meghan argued in the Sussexes' bombshell interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey that Archie was not given the title of prince because of his race.

However, at the time Archie and Lili were born, they were the great-grandchild of a sovereign, not a grandchild.

Eventually, Archie will be entitled to succeed Harry as the Duke of Sussex.
