Queen Elizabeth II will finally meet her 11-month-old great-granddaughter Lilibet as she is set to attend the little one's first birthday.

The 37-year-old prince - who, along with wife Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties two years ago and now lives in California - confirmed they will travel from Los Angeles to the UK with children Archie and Lilibet for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

And now it has been reported the 96-year-old monarch will likely miss her favourite sporting event, the Derby horse races at Epsom, to attend Lilibet's birthday celebrations at Frogmore Cottage.

It is unclear how the family will celebrate Lilibet's birthday.

It comes after a royal expert told The Express earlier this year that the Queen is "desperate" to meet Lilibet and despite regularly speaking via video chat.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton will not be present at their niece's birthday as they are scheduled to visit Cardiff.

This visit will mark the first time Harry and Meghan have brought their children to the UK since leaving for America in 2020.

Harry has only returned to the UK three times since stepping down from his role as a senior royal.

He returned home in July last year to unveil a statue of his mother Princess Diana.

The Duke also made the journey back to the UK for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021.

More recently, he has visited the Queen along with Meghan - the couple's first joint visit since announcing they were beginning a new life together in California.
