Robbie Williams has received unanimous praise for his electrifying pre-match entertainment at the AFL grand final in Melbourne over the weekend.

Taking to the stage at the MCG, the music superstar also brought a tear to the eye of some, with his touching tributes to two Aussie icons.

Keeping his good friend's spirit alive, the 48-year-old dedicated a heartfelt rendition of his hit song 'Angels' to the late cricket icon Shane Warne.

"Love you Warnie!" he shouted as he began to sing the track.

In a bid to another Aussie legend, Williams then went on to sing 'You’re the Voice,' dedicated to John Farnham, who recently underwent surgery on his jaw.

Farnham's operation involved reconstructive surgery, as part of his jaw had to be removed in order to remove a cancerous tumour in his mouth.

Given the nature of the surgery, it is unclear if he will ever sing or perform live again.

"I want everyone to sing along to this. The next song is the unofficial national anthem of Australia," he said, before adding: "Let's all send our love to John and his family."

And it turns out the Aussie musician was "deeply touched" by Williams' performance.

"We were delighted to see Robbie Williams dedicate his performance of 'You’re The Voice' to John,” Farnham's family said in a statement released on the singer's behalf.

"John was watching from hospital and was deeply touched by that very generous gesture."

The 'Rock DJ' singer ended his set with a show-stopping performance of 'Kids,' his 2000 duet with Kylie Minogue, with Delta Goodrem standing in for the pop princess.
