Sophie Pascoe has won New Zealand's first medal of the Tokyo Paralympics after claiming silver in the women's SB8 100m breaststroke tonight.

Ireland's Ellen Keane, who won a bronze in Rio, pipped Pascoe by the tiniest margin to claim gold.

Tonight's medal marks Pascoe's 16th Paralympic medal, a tally which now comprises nine golds and seven silvers.

And she'll have four more opportunities to add to that record NZ tally.

Congratulations Sophie!
