She's the Queen of The Chase – and now it turns out Anne Hegerty is also related to real royalty.

Featuring in the new series of ITV's DNA Journey, the much-loved Chaser was told that Queen Elizabeth II is her 19th cousin and that King Robert The Bruce was her 20-times great grandfather.

After the revelation was made, The Governess hilariously admitted she had already been told this by her grandmother but didn't believe her.

She said: "Wow, that is cool. But my grandmother was the most tremendous liar.

"My aunt said she was a romancer and she'd embroider life a bit, so I always felt that anything from my grandmother had to be taken with a pinch of salt."

Through her mother's line, Anne — who is accompanied on the program by fellow Chaser Shaun Wallace on his own family quest — is related to a family called Hayes, one of whom married Robert the Bruce’s daughter Princess Elizabeth in 1370.

Following the revelation, Wallace joked: "Without spoiling anything, we call her 'Queen Anne', because obviously, she's the queen of quizzing, but we have to really bow and curtsy to her now!"
