English actor Dominic West has revealed he wrote to King Charles to warn him he would be portraying him in the upcoming season of The Crown.

The 53-year-old TV star had close ties with the British royal family as he is an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a charity founded by Charles in 1976.

Concerned about the conflict of interest, West decided to send a private letter to then-Prince informing him he would be playing him for season five of the Netflix show and that he ultimately wished to resign from the trust.

Shortly afterwards, he received a surprising response ...

Speaking to Radio Time, West said the response was along the lines of: "'You do what you like, you're an actor, it’s nothing to do with us.'"

Before adding that Charles ultimately rejected his resignation.

The upcoming season will premiere on November 9.
