Tom Hanks returns to Australia to finish filming Elvis Presley biopic

After testing positive for the coronavirus earlier this year, Tom Hanks has returned to Australia to resume filming of Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic.

The actor flew back to Coolangatta Airport in Queensland in a private jet on Tuesday night.

According to reports, the 64-year-old stepped onto the tarmac wearing a face mask before being whisked away by health officials and police to serve his two-week quarantine at a luxury hotel.

Filming of the hotly-anticipated film was suspended in March when the coronavirus pandemic first hit Australia and Hanks, as well as his wife Rita Wilson, came down with the virus.

It's believed the Hollywood stars contracted the disease overseas before arriving Down Under.

The pair were admitted to a specialist ward at Gold Coast University Hospital before returning to their rented house on the Gold Coast and eventually jetting home to the United States.

The Castaway actor has since been donating his blood plasma, with antibodies being used to treat critical COVID-19 patients.

Hanks portrays Presley's manager, Colonel Parker, in the $105million film.

American actor Austin Butler will star as Elvis, while Olivia DeJonge plays Priscilla Presley and Maggie Gyllenhaal portrays Gladys Presley.

Warner Brothers says the cast and crew must test negative to coronavirus before they can return to work and those travelling from overseas must isolate for 14 days at their own expense.

The film is scheduled for release in November next year.
