Snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott has won New Zealand's first medal of the Beijing Winter Olympics after claiming GOLD in the Women's Slopestyle Big Air today.

USA's Julia Marino claimed silver, while Australia's Tess Coady won bronze.

The 20-year-old from Wanaka has just become New Zealand's greatest-ever Winter Olympian.

Sadowski-Synnott's win marks New Zealand's first-ever gold medal at a Winter Olympics after 70 years.

Before she and halfpipe skier Nico Porteous claimed bronzes at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, New Zealand had just one medal at the Winter Games - alpine skier Annelise Coberge's silver in 1992.

Congratulations Zoi!
