A mother's sassy note explaining her child's school absence has gone viral.

Nicole Poppic of Clarksburg, California, wrote a detailed note to explain why her 14-year-old daughter Cara wasn't on time for school in the morning.

Ms Poppic explained to the teacher that the teenager was suffering a condition known as "teenage-ism", saying: "Adolescents across our great nation are afflicted, and there is no known cure.

She goes on to say she threw Cara's mobile phone out the window after the girl refused to listen to her (although she subsequently said she gave it back).

The daughter seems to have learnt her lesson, telling TODAY Parents she was "ashamed of acting that way, because my teachers usually know me as the quiet, respectful student in the class, and I didn't want them to think otherwise".

Annoying teens take note - don't mess with your parents.
