Ariana Huffington, 64, is an American author and columnist, and owner of the Huffington Post - the most visited news site in the US (with 150 million global unique visitors last month). She visited NZ recently and shared her 12 tips to help you thrive:

  • Get 30 minutes more sleep: Go to bed earlier, take a short nap during the day, or employ a combination of both.
  • Move your body: Walk, run, stretch ...
  • Meditate for five minutes: Aim to build up to 15 or 20 minutes, daily.
  • Let go of something you don't need: Start today. Resentments, negative self-talk, or a project you're not going to complete.
  • Start a gratitude list: Share it with two or more friends who send theirs to you.
  • Disconnect from the digital world: Have a specific time at night when you regularly turn off your devices... and take one minute each morning before you look at your smart phone.
  • Breathe: Focus on the rising and falling of your breath for ten seconds whenever you feel tense, rushed, or distracted.
  • Pick an image that ignites the joy in you: Anytime you feel contracted, go to it to help you expand.
  • Forgive yourself: For any judgements you're holding against yourself and then forgive your judgements of others.
  • Make kindness and giving a habit: Pay attention to how this affects your mind, emotions and body.
  • Make a daily personal connection with people you might normally pass by: the check-out clerk, the cleaning crew at your office ...
  • Use a skill or a talent to help someone: Cooking, accounting, decorating. Jumpstart your transition from a go-getter to a gogiver.
