It was an emotional episode of The Voice Australia this week, as the four coaches were left in tears following the show's oldest-ever contestant's blind audition.

Taking to the stage, Conrad De Silva paid tribute to his wife of 50 years with a sweet rendition of Nat King Cole's romantic song 'L-O-V-E.'

But while the 80-year-old's performance failed to turn any chairs, it was what happened after he finished singing that enchanted Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora, Keith Urban and the audience alike.

"We met when we were 15 and 16," he said of his wife. "I just looked at her and said, 'This is the one I want to marry.'"

De Silva then asked if his wife could go up on the stage, saying: "I'd like to call her up because I'd like to give her something."

As she took to the stage, De Silva took out a ring box and said: "Darling wife, once upon a time I was your man and you were my woman, 50 years ago.

"And you are an amazing wife. You gave me the best two children in the world and you made my life so, so happy.

"I'm still hoping that God will keep us together... for the next 10 years," he said, prompting laughter from the coaches.

Pulling out the ring he continued: "So here, my darling, [is] this ring of 50 years of marriage."
